Anecdotal

Stephani Might Have Keto Rash

[I can’t say for certain if Stephani has the keto rash because there can be a few things going on here.  She mentions that she was ‘burned’ or may have an allergic reaction to a lotion, however the fact that she recently began a ketogenic diet also throws the possibility of keto rash into the mix.]

I started a ketogenic diet 6 weeks ago. I don’t even know if I am actually in ketosis or not, as I don’t track my ketone levels, but I’m definitely under 60g of carbs daily.… Read More

Julie also gets keto rash from supplements

[In response to Heath’s post who developed keto rash from taking ketone supplements, Julie reported a similar reaction when taking supplements from Julian Bakery.  I personally haven’t tried any ketone supplements aside from MCT oils so can’t say much about it myself.]

I got the keto rash from using supplements (Julian Bakery) a few times in a week. I only went up from 4.1 mmol blood ketones to 4.3 (and I know I’ve been at 4.2 before).

Unfortunately, I can’t go up on carbs or try steroids because I have epilepsy.… Read More

Lisa goes keto for 3 months and gets keto rash… maybe? [Definitely]

[Lisa’s story is similar to mine.  I went keto and was doing great for a few months losing weight, feeling good, when all of a sudden this rash appeared out of nowhere.]

I broke out in a rash about 10 days ago. I started the keto diet about 3 months ago. The rash is on my arms my torso, with focus on either side. It has also started on my upper thighs. I was probably less than 20 g of carb a day and feeling great.… Read More

Is there any correlation between the menstrual cycle and keto rash?

[I’m going to admit complete ignorance on this subject.  This commenter on facebook seemed to notice a pattern with her time of the month.  It’s not something I’ve ever seen mentioned so I figured I’d post it here to see if anyone else has any thoughts and can chime in or share their experience.]

Any correlation between keto rash and menstrual cycle?

Every month I’ve gotten a rash!

I up my carbs to between 30-50 for that week, and seem to be OK!

When I start itching I do 30-50 carbs that day and the next 2, and it stays at bay.… Read More

Paul Gets Keto Rash And Tries To Figure Out His Carb Window

[One of the strategies many people opt to pursue instead of carbing out to the max (like I did) or taking antibiotics (like I also did) is to slowly titrate up their carb intake until they find the ideal amount that will allow them to experience all of the benefits of ketosis while at the same time keeping the keto rash at bay.  It looks like Paul is well on his way to figuring what his range is.]

My rash started about 10 days ago after being in ketosis about two weeks.… Read More

A Reader Wonders about Ketosis and Bile Deficiency

[A reader on The Keto Rash Facebook Community wonders about the relationship between Keto Rash and bile acid deficiency.  There isn’t any relationship that I’ve come across in my research between the rash and bile acids except that bile acids are heavily involved in the metabolism of cholesterol, and cholesterol metabolism can be altered with ketogenic diets.

I can’t say that I know much about the work of Dr. Eric Berg who this person follows, but a quick perusal of his site shows that he’s a chiropractor who develope the ‘Body Type System of Weight Loss.’  That’s about as far as I let myself go down this particular rabbit hole.Read More

AA Gets Keto Rash After Doing Strict Keto And Losing 8% Body Fat

[AA is attempting to lose body fat by going keto and found that this brought on the keto rash.  I’ve made some grammatical edits to his original message.]

Hey. Just sharing that I’m undergoing a strict keto diet with intermittent fasting to drop body fat percentage.  Been in keto for about a monthish.

I started at 205 lbs and 23% body fat.  I’m currently 189 lbs and 15% body fat.  The rash appeared maybe sooner, but was on my neck and back and I didn’t notice it until it appeared on my chest.… Read More

Heath Gets Keto Rash From Exogenous Ketones

[Heath reached out to me on Facebook to share his experience getting Keto Rash after using exogenous ketones in the form of Keto/OS Packets from Pruvit.

My immediate thought was that perhaps this was an allergic reaction to something in the supplement because if its distribution, however the fact that it improved with carbs really favor it being Keto Rash.

As you can tell from what he says, Heath is experienced with keto and has done it in the past without any issues, which is why it’s fascinating to see that he only gets the rash when he uses these packets.  Read More

After trying almost everything, Sharon finally finds relief with increasing her carbs

[If you’ve been following this site, this is now a familiar story.  Person goes low carb, gets rash, tries all sorts of creams and pills to treat the rash to no avail, only to find that increasing their carbs will do the trick.  I am surprised that antibiotics didn’t help Sharon though, although I wonder if she took oral antibiotics or used topical antibiotic creams/ointments.  Sharon shared this on The Keto Rash Facebook Page.]

Hi everyone.

I’ve been reading up on other instances of Keto rash wherever I can find it on the Internet and just thought I would share my experience.… Read More

SP finds relief with Turmeric and CoQ10

[SP Posted this on The Keto Rash Facebook pageWhile I’ve tried turmeric before, the one I like is Thorne Research’s Meriva, a formulation that binds curcumin (the active ingredient of turmeric) to a phytosome for enhanced absorption, I personally didn’t find it helpful with keto rash when I had it.  I haven’t tried the CoQ10 before, so that may be something to explore if/when the rash returns.]

So I got keto rash on my back and between my breasts. I exercise daily and it started to spread rapidly.… Read More
